After the successful deliveries of Pipistrel »Garud« aircraft to Indian Air Force and Indian National Cadet Corps, now the third step of deliveries has begun to the Indian Navy.
From now on all three segments will use Pipistrel aircraft for Flight Safety, Air Experiences and Training of beginners. We are very honored by this achievement and we thank the trust and the recognition that the Indian Armed Forces have bestowed on Pipistrel. The formal induction ceremony of Indian Navy by Vice Admiral AR Katre, Flag Officer in Chief Southern Naval Command was attended by Sanjay Thapar, Country Head Pipistrel.
Vice Admiral AR Karve, PVSM, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command inducted two Microlight aircraft ‘Garud’ into Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 550 on 15 March 2018 at Naval Base Kochi.
‘Garud’ is the first of its type aircraft to be inducted into the Indian Navy and is envisaged to play a pivotal role in enhancing bird survey, thereby augmenting anti-bird hazard measures and promoting Flight Safety. ‘Garud’ will be the 14th type of aircraft to join INAS 550 since its commissioning in 1959. The squadron currently operates Dornier DO 228 aircraft used for Maritime Surveillance, Search and Rescue and training of ‘Pilots’ and ‘Observers’.
