Basic information

PB345V124E-L battery pack is a liquid cooled battery pack designed for powering electric vehicles. The battery pack is constructed of cylindrical Li-Ion type cells which use the NMC chemistry (Nickel Manganese Cobalt). Basic battery pack parameters are listed the table below.

Connector inlet for liquid cooling

The PB345V124E-L battery uses liquid cooling of the individual battery cells. One is located on the front bottom, the second one is located on the rear side, at the top. See the images below for reference. Mating hose connector is Norma PS3 NW12.

Venting channel

PB345V124E-L battery is equipped with a venting channel and a venting exhaust in the rear side of the battery. The venting channel is used to controllably release the gasses in the event of a thermal runaway.

Electrical information

1.1 Features
• 2 contactors built in for disengaging positive and negative HV power line
• 125A rated high voltage main fuse
• Shunt resistor used for measuring currents up to 150A
• Battery management system
• Built in precharge function, which allows the battery to connect to a load without large inrush currents
• The main controller also has two discrete LED outputs, which are used as a caution and warning signal respectively. A test button input is also present. When the user presses the test button, the signal is fed into the microcontroller and the microcontroller then turns ON both LEDs. This way the functionality of the LEDs is tested, as well as software responsiveness.

1.2 Connectors
Power connector
Power connector on the battery side is Amphenol Excel Mate HVSL800022A1D6. The connector also has built in interlock used for detecting if connector on the cable side has been properly inserted.

Signal connector
Battery pack also features D38999 Series III type connector used for CANbus communication, providing auxiliary power to the BMS system, setting the address of the battery and for warning and caution alerts. The connector used is Souriau 8D0C15F19PN.

1.3 BMS system functions
The BMS is located on the inside of the battery and requires an external auxiliary power supply to operate. The nominal required auxiliary input voltage is 10-30V and is designed to be compliant to 14V and 28V DC input specification, as defined in the Section 16 of DO-160G.
The BMS safety features:
• Cell over-voltage protection
• Cell under-voltage protection
• Cell over temperature protection
BMS also calculates SOC (State of Charge), SOH (state of Health) of the battery pack.
