In early March 2017, Pipistrel was nominated for the world’s most prestigious aviation award, the Aviation Week Laureates. The award has a 60-year tradition.

Pipistrel was nominated in the Technology category. Given the long existence of the Laureates Awards program, this is a fairly new category, but among the past winners are also eminent names such as NASA (2016) for its work in developing eco-friendly aircraft. Pipistrel was nominated for “leadership in electric propulsion, from production light aircraft to hybrid-electric and fuel-cell technology demonstrations.”

For an aircraft manufacturer like Pipistrel, such a nomination is a great honor and recognition of our efforts. We are pleased that the media around the world, especially a reputable organization such as the Aviation Week, recognizes our value in the development of green aircraft propulsion. Ranking among the finalists, in the company of names like NASA, Solar Impulse, Lufthansa and Airbus, is definitely something we are very proud of.

Ivo Boscarol, the Pipistrel CEO, stated:
“Of all the winners, only one prize was awarded to an European recipient, and even before we left for the USA, we knew that we did not have much chance of victory in such a competition. But the prestige of being invited into the most elite circle of aviation nominees is for such a small company as Pipistrel and a country like Slovenia, a recognition which is difficult to imagine. Being in the same hall and sitting at the same tables as astronauts and directors of the world’s largest airlines, the people who have been making aviation history for decades, is a very special feeling. The prestige of being in the company of people such as Mr. Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon and the visionary of Blue Origin*, and listening to his vision of setting up a permanent settlement on the moon, gives wings and a thousand new ideas to a dreamer like me. Such events also confirm the fact that the world recognizes Pipistrel as a pioneer and chief designer of electric aircraft.”

The other three nominees in the Technology category, (i.e. our competition) were:

-Edge Aerodynamics
-Solar Impulse co-founders Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard

The hall where the gala event took place, was in keeping with the reputation of the organizer and the award.

Ivo Boscarol, direktor podjetja Pipistrel, pravi:
