Pipistrel celebrates one year since type certification of the Velis Electro

One year after its introduction, the Velis Electro remains the only type-certified electrically powered aeroplane in the world. Beloved by pilots and operators for its simplicity and low operating costs, its small environmental footprint is redefining general aviation and acceptance of aerodromes by the surrounding communities.

AJDOVŠČINA, SLOVENIA – 10 June 2021:

On this day one year ago, EASA granted the first type-certificate for a battery-powered aeroplane, the Pipistrel Velis Electro. The interest sparked in the aviation community has been overwhelming, and one year after, the Velis Electro is becoming a favourite among pilots and flight schools. The simplicity of operation and drastically reduced maintenance of the electrical powerplant translates into lower operating costs and therefore cheaper flight hour price.

Big beneficiaries of this ground-breaking technology are the neighbouring communities. The acoustic nuisance of the Velis Electro contrasts significantly with usually older and heavier fuel-powered counterparts, reducing the noise by up to 70%. This has allowed the reintroduction of flight operations during weekends and holidays, an activity that had been previously banned on aerodromes with nearby populations, such as Toussus-le-Noble in France. The available flying time has therefore increased both for flight schools and for student pilots, who would otherwise need to secure slots during busy weekdays.

The ultimate beneficiary of electrical aircraft is our planet, as emissions can be cut practically to zero, especially when electricity is generated from renewable sources. This is the case of the aerodromes of Fribourg-Ecuvillens in Switzerland and Aix-Les Milles in southern France, which implemented solar-energy chargers for electric aircraft and have recently become the home bases of their first Velis Electros.

The first year of the Velis Electro in numbers and achievements:

  • 5 aircraft per month is the current production rate of the Velis Electro.
  • 6 Velis Electro were ordered by our launch customer, the French Aeronautical Federation (FFA).
  • 50 aircraft plus 150 options is the largest order so far, by Green Aerolease.
  • 13 aeroplanes form the largest fleet currently in operation by AlpinAirPlanes, accumulating an average of 150 flight hours per month in 10 Swiss flight training organisations.
  • 9 countries already operate the Velis Electro: Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
  • 200+ pilots have already received their endorsements to fly the Velis Electro.
  • 29 pilot instructors have been approved to train on the Velis Electro.
  • 27 Part-66 licenced mechanics from 9 Part-145 maintenance organisations have been trained to maintain and repair the Velis Electro.
  • 1500+ flight hours have been logged so far on the entire fleet, allowing to save 95 tons of CO2 with respect to older fuel-guzzling trainers (classic 2-seat aircraft burning 20 kg of fuel per hour).
  • 2 Velis Electro will be leased by the Danish Defence, becoming the first air force to operate electrically powered aircraft.

During this first year, the Velis Electro planes have also been flown in two record-breaking adventures: the Electric World Record Flight and Elektropostal.
It was also awarded the title “2020 Plane Of The Year” by the prestigious Plane&Pilot magazine.

Pipistrel praznuje prvo obletnico tipske certifikacije letala Velis Electro

Eno leto po uvedbi ostaja Velis Electro edino tipsko certificirano letalo na svetu z električnim pogonom. Piloti in uporabniki so ga vzljubili zaradi preprostosti in nizkih obratovalnih stroškov. Njegov minimalen okolijski odtis pa na novo opredeljuje splošno letalstvo in omogoča sprejemanje navzočnosti letališč znotraj okolijskih skupnosti.

AJDOVŠČINA, SLOVENIJA – 10. junij 2021:

Na današnji dan pred enim letom je EASA podelila prvo tipsko certifikacijo za letalo z električnim baterijskim pogonom, Pipistrelov Velis Electro. Zanimanje letalske skupnosti je bilo izjemno in eno leto zatem Velis Electro postaja vse bolj priljubljen med piloti in letalskimi šolami. Preprostost upravljanja in skrajno zmanjšanje potreb po vzdrževanju električne pogonske enote pomeni nižje obratovalne stroške in s tem nižjo ceno ure letenja.

Z uvedbo te revolucionarne tehnologije so veliko pridobila okoliška naselja. Zvočno onesnaženje, ki ga povzroča Velis Electro, je popolno nasprotje navadno starejših in težjih letal na fosilna goriva, hrup namreč zmanjša kar do 70%. To je omogočilo ponovno letenje med vikendi in prazniki na letališčih v bližini poseljenih območij, kot je na primer Toussus-le-Noble v Franciji. Razpoložljivi čas letenja se je zato povečal tako za letalske šole kot tudi za pilote-študente, ki bi si sicer morali rezervirati termine za letenje znotraj polno zasedenih delovnih dni med tednom.

Z uporabo električnih letal pa seveda največ pridobi naš planet, saj lahko izpuste zmanjšamo tako rekoč na nič, zlasti kadar elektriko proizvajamo iz obnovljivih virov. Lep primer tega sta letališči Fribourg-Ecuvillens v Švici in Aix-Les Milles na jugu Francije, kjer so vgradili polnilnice za za električna letala na sončno energijo, ki so postale bazni tabor njihovih prvih Velis-ov Electro.

Prvo leto letala Velis Electro v številkah in dosežkih:

  • 5 letal na mesec znaša trenutna proizvodnja Velisov Electro v podjetju Pipistrel
  • Trenutna proizvodnja Velisov Electro je 5 letal mesečno
  • 6 Velisov Electro je naročil prvi kupec tega modela, Francoska letalska zveza (French Aeronautical Federation, FFA).
  • 50 potrjenih letal (in 150 rezervacij) je do sedaj največje enotno naročilo Velisov, ki ga je podpisalo podjetje Green Aerolease.
  • 13 letal v tem trenutku predstavlja največjo floto Velisov. Z njimi upravlja podjetje AlpinAirPlanes, ki v desetih švicarskih letalskih šolah vsak mesec povprečno naleti 150 ur letenja.
  • Velisi Electro letijo že v 9 državah: Belgiji, Franciji, Nemčiji, na Nizozemskem, Norveškem, v Sloveniji, na Švedskem, v Švici in v Veliki Britaniji.
  • Več kot 200 pilotov je že pridobilo dovoljenja za letenje z Velisom Electro.
  • 29 inštruktorjev letenja je prejelo licence za usposabljanje učencev na Velisu Electro.
  • 27 letalskih mehanikov z licenco Part-66 iz 9 organizacij Part-145 je bilo usposobljenih za vzdrževanje in popravilo Velisa Electro
  • Vsi Velisi Electro skupaj so do sedaj opravili več kot 1,500 ur letenja, kar je omogočilo prihranek več kot 94,000kg CO2 (v primerjavi s starejšimi letali za šolanje, ki uporabljajo fosilna goriva in porabijo povprečno 20 kg goriva na uro).
  • Danske oborožene sile bodo najele 2 Letali Velis Electro in tako postale prve vojaške zračne sile, ki upravljajo letala z električnim pogonom.

V tem prvem letu so letala Velis Electro sodelovala tudi v dveh rekordnih dogodivščinah: Električni polet za svetovne rekorde in Elektropostal.  Ugledna letalska revija Plane & Pilot je Velisu podelila tudi naziv “Letalo leta 2020 “.
