Pipistrel, who was awarded the contract by Indian MoD to supply 194 aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Navy (IN) and National Cadet Corps (NCC), delivered the first batch of their aircraft to India and kick-started the process of training Indian Engineers and Pilots.

Pipistrel, the winner of a contest to supply 194 aircraft to the Indian armed forces (more info: http://www.pipistrel.si/news/pipistrel-emerges-as-winner-to-supply-194-aircraft) , successfully delivered the first shipment of aircraft to India and handed them over to the customer.

The first aircraft were delivered to Hindan Airbase, India in mid-July.

The engineers who assembled the first aircraft and did its maintenance were AME Deepak, AME Kumar Rajeev, Jaydeep Bhattacharjee and Jaitender Kumar.

The first take-off was performed on 19. July at 10.25 am local time.

Garud just landed after its first flight

Right now the first Indian flight instructors are finishing their re-training process on the new type of aircraft. Several Slovenian experts travelled to India to provide education for Indian pilots and mechanics, among them Sašo Knez, Jure Pocrnjič and Tadel Špitalar of the Pipistrel Academy. Two Pipistrel technical instructors, Leon Brecelj and Jaka Filipič, have already completed the first stage of training Indian mechanics on how to provide correct maintenance for Pipistrel aircraft.

Pipistrel country head Wg Cdr (Retd) Sanjay Thapar VM, described the process:
“In pursuant to the contractual commitments Pipistrel Slovenia is imparting conversion training to Indian Air Force Engineers, Technician and Pilots on newly supplied Garud Microlights at Air Force Station Hindan, in India. Training was undertaken at C-130 & C-17 Tetra School at Air Force Station Hindan. The first batch of Engineers and technicians successfully completed their training on 22 July 2016. The Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Hindan Air Cmde Nilesh Kapoor VM was the Chief Guest of the function. He gave away certificates of qualification to all trainees who successfully completed their training. He appreciated the training capsule of Pipistrel, thanked Slovenian Chief of training Mr Leon Brecelj and his team of instructors Mr Jaka Filipič and Mr Jure Pocrnjič for their hard work. He called the training capsule as very useful and enhancing knowledge of IAF & NCC engineers and technicians.”

Back at Pipistrel’s home base in Slovenia, the production continues at full speed.
